11 23日,美国田纳西州上诉法院做出判决,维持终止贺绍强夫妇对贺梅的父母权的原判决。据了解,贺绍强夫妇已经决定将尽快就该案向西纳西州最高法院提出上诉。

中国驻美国大使馆邱学军参赞兼总领事就此发表谈话如下:我们对田纳西州上诉法院有关贺梅抚养权案的判决结果感到十分关切和失望,并对此表示遗憾,我们已向贺绍强夫妇表示慰问。父母权是最基本的人权之一,贺梅回到其亲生父母身边,由亲生父母抚养最符合她的利益,理应受到法律的保护和道义上的支持。中国大使馆对贺梅抚养权案一直十分关心和重视,曾数次向有关法院提出依法公正审理的要求,并多次派出领事官员旁听案件审理。中国大使馆将继续关注这一案件并根据领事职能为贺家提供必要协助。(完)

Remarks made by Mr. Qiu Xuejun, Counselor and Consul General of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the U.S.A. regarding the Anna Mae He case.

On November 23, 2005, the Court of Appeals of Tennessee in its opinion upheld a decision, made by the Tennessee Chancery Court for the Thirtieth Judicial District at Memphis, to terminate the parental rights of the two Chinese citizens of Shaoqiang He and Qin Luo to their first-born child, Anna Mae He.

Mr. Qiu Xuejun, Counselor and Consul General of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the U.S.A. made the following remarks regarding the ruling concerned. He says that the Chinese Embassy is very disappointed and concerned about the ruling, and expresses regret over it. Parental rights are universally acknowledged to be part of the basic human rights. Anna Mae He, being returned to and taken care of by his parents is in her best interests. The Chinese Embassy has been following the case closely in the past. The Counselor and Consul General of Embassy has written letters to the judicial organs concerned of the U.S. on many occasions, asking the handling of the case in a fair and just manner, the consuls of the Embassy have attended court hearings many times. The Embassy will continue to follow closely the legal proceedings of the case and render necessary consular assistance to the He's family.(end)
